Driver's Education Information
Thirty-hour Driver Theory (minimum age 15)
Option 1: - Online class
Go to www.driversed.com. Click on teen driver and specify State of PA. You will then be directed to Henry & Joe's Driving School. Upon successful completion, be sure to print the Certificate of Completion.
Option 2: Both through CSIU
Six-hour Behind the Wheel Training and Road/Skills Test (minimum age 16 + Junior Learner's Permit)

The Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit offers a 6 hour behind the wheel training. The following items must accompany the registration form (CSIU Behind the Wheel Driver Education Registration Form) available in the Guidance Office
- Registration fee
- Valid PA Learner's Permit or license
- Copy of a Certificate of Completion from a Safety Ed course/30 hour driver theory class
- Upon receipt of the registration, an instructor will call to schedule the 6 hours of driver training
- Students are required to successfully complete a Safety Ed course (30 hour Theory) and Behind-the-Wheel Instruction (6 hours) to be eligible for the instructor to administer the Road/Skills Test.

Students who choose to take the 30 hour Driver Theory class and the six-hour Behind the Wheel Training are eligible for the following:
- Possible reduction of insurance costs
- Students will be administered the Road/Skills test by the 6 hour behind the wheel instructor instead of an officer at a driving center
- Students are eligible to change from a junior driver's license to a regular non-commercial license if after one year they have not had a driving violation conviction (form DL-59)
Applying for your Junior Learner's Permit (all PennDOT forms are found at www.dmv.state.pa.us)
- Obtain a copy of the Pennsylvania Driver's Manual (Pub 95) to prepare for permit exam.
- Get your Physical examination. Take the Non-Commercial Learner's Permit Application (DL-180) to your physician to have the Physician's Report of Examination section completed.
- Your parent or guardian must complete the Parent or Guardian Consent Form (DL-180TD).
- When you are prepared for your exam, you may go to the Driver License Center of your choice. At this time you will be given a vision screening and the knowledge test which will assess your knowledge of road signs and the rules of the road. You must take the following documents with you - photocopies are not accepted:
- Completed Non-Commercial Learner's Permit Application (DL-180)
- Your completed Parent or Guardian Consent Form (DL-180TD)
- Proof of your date of birth and identification. (Social Security Card and one of the following: Birth Certificate, Certificate of US Citizenship, Certificate of Naturalization, Valid US Passport
- Your Social Security Card
- A check or money order, payable to "PennDOT", in the appropriate amount. Cash cannot be accepted
After successful completion of the vision screening and Pennsylvania's knowledge test, the examiner will give you a learner's permit that is valid for 1 year. Upon receipt of your learner's permit, you may begin to practice driving.
You are required to complete at least 65 hours of behind-the-wheel skill-building, including no less than ten hours of nighttime driving and five hours of bad weather driving before taking your road test.

Road/Skills Test Administered at a Driver License Center
After you have waited the mandatory 6 months from receiving your Junior Learner's Permit issue date and completed the 65 hours of skill-building, you may make an appointment to take your road test. You can schedule the road test via the Driver & Vehicle Services Website: www.dmv.state.pa.us or by calling 1-800-423-5542.
www.driversed.com - An approved on-line class that students may take. Upon completion of the online class, print out your Certificate of Completion. Get the Behind-the-Wheel registration form from the guidance office and send it and the Certificate of Completion and a copy of the Learner's Permit to the CSIU. A driving instructor will call the student/parent to schedule the 6 hour driving instruction.
