Welcome to Chemistry 1!
Biography
My name is Mrs. Kaitlyn
Thursby, and I teach Chemistry 1. I grew up in Lebanon County,
Pennsylvania in a little town called Cleona. If you have heard of Lebanon
Valley College, that's in my hometown area. I earned my bachelor’s degree
in Chemistry from Bloomsburg University in 2008 and went on to Penn State
University to pursue a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. My love of teaching
grew during my teaching assistant years at Penn State, which prompted me to
changed fields and earn my M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction
simultaneous with completing a teaching certificate program in Chemistry in
2011. I joined the Central Columbia team immediately after completing my
certification. I also teach chemistry labs on occasion at Bloomsburg
University as a temporary professor. My husband and I married in 2013,
and we live in Benton on property that has been passed down in his family for
generations. Outside of school I enjoy umpiring softball at both the high
school, recreation, and collegiate levels. My husband and I also enjoy
firearms instructing and participating in competitive shooting sports.
