Environmental Science Class Conducts Timber Cruising Activity

Students in the Central Columbia Environmental Science class conducted for two days an activity involving the process of utilizing a DOT Prism evaluation and timber cruising on property owed by the Central Columbia School District. Students learned how to effectively and accurately measure trees for Diameter Breast Height, determine the number of logs in a tree utilizing the Merritt Hypsometer, identify tree species and determine acceptable and un-acceptable growth stock.

The Timber Cruising Activity
Issac Gensemer (12th grade), Josh Reifer (12th grade) and Trent Kaiser (11th grade) conduct a practice session on determining the number of logs in a tree during Environmental Science Class as part of the timber cruising activity.
